MLJ's Thursday Treasure Trove: Early? Late?
Published over 1 year ago • 2 min read
Hi Reader,
Pretend it's still Thursday, September 12th, and this is not even late!
You can have access to my latest short story just by clicking the link below. You deserve all I have to offer. I am so grateful to have you aboard.
What's new?
In consultation with some pretty smart people (Rebecca, Lora) I've decided to share my backlog of short stories with everyone--on my website. Maybe you missed a few over the last few months. Maybe you're new to us. Maybe it's a bummer trying to access downloaded stories from your phone through the newsletter. (I've heard all the above) So, you will find them soon on the website.
What's new with me?
I'm looking forward to October's Kansas Author's Club conference/retreat at my favorite conference site in Kansas, Rock Springs Ranch. I'll have over 24 uninterrupted hours to walk and dictate and write, which is great, for I have a new project.
Another favorite spot in Kansas, Coronado Heights...and one of my kids, for the "awwwww" factor.
That project is growing in scale. (As some of you may know, I've been cracking out short stories lately. This one refuses to be boxed in.) If you're a fan of Franklin and the outskirts far beyond the Swipes, the project I'm investing in will be very-much to your liking. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, read the series!.
I so enjoy reading speculative fiction, works that work the future angle. I am a futurist and an optimist at heart (even when I write dystopian novels). There's so much to explore in prospects of the future. Read all about it on my blog. Snippet from there is here:
We expense energy and attention on technology, but we’ve been fixated on other things over time, from golden calves to hourglass figures. Wars have been fought over salt and silk…and oil.
This just in: watch for the next issue when I will NEED YOU to help me finalize cover designs. It's coming together quickly--like a tortoise.
ALSO: anyone up for being a Beta reader yet for Sackerson? I know I ask about this frequently, but I have not brought it up since we doubled our readership. Beta readers get the novel early and get to help make it more awesome with early feedback I can apply before pressing the final "print" button. If you're interested, email me.
Remember to review novels you read, wherever you post. It's the best help for an indie author, and it helps build the reader community. Give freely of your high praise, for that social proof is what sells novels (and gives the author fuel to keep at it, too!)
I like to give freely too...
...and appreciate your feedback.
With that in mind, here's a short story I wrote. It's yours, free, just for tuning in.

My first book, Lightning's Hand, is now at WATERMARK BOOKSTORE in Wichita! If you're passing through, you should drop in and request that novel. I'd like to have all my works on their shelves... but it's a supply/demand thing...so demand for me. Ask for the sequels. Ask when I'm coming there in person.
It's also available for order on their site, here.
MARK LANDON JARVIS Treasure Trove Newsletter Great news in Science-Fiction and a Freebie just for you. What's Up? Spring Break. Let me first say, it ain't what it used to be. My Spring Break has been doctor's appointments and handyman work around the house. No Cabo or Daytona for this old man. Spring Break has afforded me the luxury of sleeping in until 7am, a time or two. On a subzero, wind-chill morning, I didn’t feel guilty about skipping the walk with my beagle. That’s the full extent of...
MARK LANDON JARVIS Brave Tomorrows, Together YESTERDAY was my two week's notice. That is, yesterday I was to hit send on my (sometimes) fortnightly newsletter. Friends tell me to set an alarm in my calendar. (That would require me to remember something else to do!) My wife tells me to pull my head out of....the sand. Anyway, here's the latest installment. AUDIO BOOKS There's no reason you should know/care about this particularly, since you're likely a consumer and not a producer of audio...
Author newsletters need to be more honest. Writing's difficult and lonely. It's worth it when you read this newsletter. (I need a graphic artist!) This is the second Thursday in January '25 and a long while since my last newsletter was issued. I welcome myself back. I welcome you back. You'll want to read this one, click something. It'll make me feel good and you'll gain something for yourself along the way. [Gads, 50 words spent already!] I don't wrestle with many demons in my newsletter. I...
