What's Up?

Spring Break.

Let me first say, it ain't what it used to be. My Spring Break has been doctor's appointments and handyman work around the house. No Cabo or Daytona for this old man.

Spring Break has afforded me the luxury of sleeping in until 7am, a time or two. On a subzero, wind-chill morning, I didn’t feel guilty about skipping the walk with my beagle. That’s the full extent of the flip-flops-and-coconut-oil vibe I’ve allowed into my life lately.

Otherwise, I've worked a bit less but still diligently on my writing.

What's New?

I'm starting to hear back from my Beta readers on the novel that goes to market this Fall. I am grateful and moved. These are not your gramma-likes-your-stories Beta readers. They're savvy and insightful.

I'm shopping around a couple of short stories. I'm tweaking those loss-leader reader magnets. I'm working on my Kickstarter campaign and contracting a cover artist. Lots of little news and movement.

What's Next?

The time has changed. The Spring Break has sprung. My dog walks are getting longer. I finally feel we're in for consistently (hahahah Kansas!) nice weather. Summer is just weeks away, and then I'll be able to dedicate full attention to this enterprise.

There's only one thing I've been looking forward to more than summer...

Over 20 years ago, I signed up for cable again so I could watch a quirky space cowboy series on Fox. I fell in love with the characters, and I've yet to find someone who doesn't after just a couple of episodes. Some shortsighted people at Fox did not seem so enamored, and they cancelled the show during it's first (and only) season.

A passionate fan base brought the cast back together for a movie, Serenity...Now, the biggest announcement in my entertainment scope is the actual return of my absolute favorite series, Firefly. Yes, it's legit this time.

Check out the announcement from Instagram or this long play Con panel podcast that explains it all.

This Just In

I’m about to give away milk, cows, the whole farm to find more supporters like yourself. (That is, I’m working on freebies to gift new subscribers to the newsletter.)

Follow this link to a hot-off-the-press cut from the long-promised zombie novel.

The upcoming novel is for readers who love:

  • Literary horror with depth and dark humor
  • Stories about finding meaning in impossible circumstances
  • Zombie stories that break the mold
  • Unreliable narrators in extreme denial
  • Character-driven apocalyptic fiction
  • Books that make you laugh and think (and occasionally cringe)

Read this short story from the novel and see if you agree!

MARK LANDON JARVIS Brave Tomorrows, Together YESTERDAY was my two week's notice. That is, yesterday I was to hit send on my (sometimes) fortnightly newsletter. Friends tell me to set an alarm in my calendar. (That would require me to remember something else to do!) My wife tells me to pull my head out of....the sand. Anyway, here's the latest installment. AUDIO BOOKS There's no reason you should know/care about this particularly, since you're likely a consumer and not a producer of audio...

Author newsletters need to be more honest. Writing's difficult and lonely. It's worth it when you read this newsletter. (I need a graphic artist!) This is the second Thursday in January '25 and a long while since my last newsletter was issued. I welcome myself back. I welcome you back. You'll want to read this one, click something. It'll make me feel good and you'll gain something for yourself along the way. [Gads, 50 words spent already!] I don't wrestle with many demons in my newsletter. I...

It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then. –Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland An unconventional issue. I usually aim for brevity. At least I've kept it under 1000 words for the last several months, but since I'm late with this issue anyway, I'm going to just let it fly. Profanity I wrote a blog post about cursing, and it's gotten more buzz than most of what I write, so I here steer you to it, especially the 100's of you who are not aware of the website. In...
