New Look for a New Year - Thanks for recent feedback on the newsletter format. I'm ramping up exactly what you called for. You'll read it here on a regular basis. Progress Bar - not a libation station for the left-leaning (groan) but a visual, ongoing word count tally toward my next publication. When there are no words to count, expect updates on edits and writer's insiders. You wanted it, and it keeps me accountable, too. Inside Sports - well, if writing were a sport...ballet is a sport, so is cheer and video gaming, so why not writing? I work up a sweat. I get cramps. I am competing for your attention...but I digress. Writer's insider again recommends listening to Dan Simpson's Writer's Routine. Every episode features in-depth conversation on all aspects of the writing life. So many authors light a candle or have a woo-woo writing space. Many have fonts they swear by or rituals they practice. My insider's tip is for those of us who never find enough time to do this craft justice. For me, it's all about dedicating deliberate time to writing, forging the muscle memory for it. That's when I create my best work, when I'm in flow, in the zone, pulled into focus...and I get that way most efficiently if I can count on time to write at the same time every day. Gold Nugget - 71% surveyed wanted more nuggets. These, again, are tidbits from my life, most of which I might recommend for yours. This week, my treasure has been my colleagues at work. I'm surrounded by educators dedicating their lives to making a better tomorrow, one enlightened, inspired student at a time. It's a great gig, teaching. Snip, snip - Edward Scissorhands might make unrivaled topiary art, but my medium is more mental, less visual. An overwhelming number of readers here wanted snippets of my works (published, unpublished, and never-to-see-publication), so I'll share a snip with each newsletter. |

MARK LANDON JARVIS Treasure Trove Newsletter Great news in Science-Fiction and a Freebie just for you. What's Up? Spring Break. Let me first say, it ain't what it used to be. My Spring Break has been doctor's appointments and handyman work around the house. No Cabo or Daytona for this old man. Spring Break has afforded me the luxury of sleeping in until 7am, a time or two. On a subzero, wind-chill morning, I didn’t feel guilty about skipping the walk with my beagle. That’s the full extent of...
MARK LANDON JARVIS Brave Tomorrows, Together YESTERDAY was my two week's notice. That is, yesterday I was to hit send on my (sometimes) fortnightly newsletter. Friends tell me to set an alarm in my calendar. (That would require me to remember something else to do!) My wife tells me to pull my head out of....the sand. Anyway, here's the latest installment. AUDIO BOOKS There's no reason you should know/care about this particularly, since you're likely a consumer and not a producer of audio...
Author newsletters need to be more honest. Writing's difficult and lonely. It's worth it when you read this newsletter. (I need a graphic artist!) This is the second Thursday in January '25 and a long while since my last newsletter was issued. I welcome myself back. I welcome you back. You'll want to read this one, click something. It'll make me feel good and you'll gain something for yourself along the way. [Gads, 50 words spent already!] I don't wrestle with many demons in my newsletter. I...
